Overview

FreshScan is an iPhone app for keeping track of food before its date passes. Point the camera at the date printed on a package and it reads the date, tells you what kind of date it is and saves it with a photo.

Items are sorted into Use today, Next 3 days and Later, so the food that needs eating is at the top. Reminders arrive at 9 AM two days before the date and on the morning of it. When a label shows two dates, FreshScan asks which one to track instead of guessing.

Anyone who wants to keep track of what's in the fridge and pantry, and waste less food.
The problem it solves
Packages mix the date that matters with packed-on dates, lot codes and plant numbers, and the wording varies from maker to maker. Keeping track of the right date for every item by hand is tedious.
